My trip to Taj MahalIn November 2008 I visited the Taj Mahal in India. It is very large and was originally built by a rich man as a Mausoleum for his dead wife. Nowadays it is a tourist attraction and one of the 7 new wonders of the world. It is very beautiful. The picture shows me outside, where it was quite cold, but I was warm as toast in my new green and orange striped costume. I am so lucky; I got new costumes in Peru and Nepal too. They are called Salwar Kameez. Wikipedia says.. Salwar kameez (also spelled shalwar kameez or shalwar qameez) is a traditional dress worn by both women and men in Southern Asia. Salvars or shalvars are loose pajama-like trousers. The legs are wide at the top, and narrow at the bottom. The kameez is a long shirt or tunic. The side seams (known as the chaak) are left open below the waist-line, which gives the wearer greater freedom of movement. It is the most common dress for men in Punjab as it is a traditional Punjabi dress as well as in other parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan. |
