The Romans - 2011 ProjectWe started a class project on "The Romas" this week. We got to grips with Roman numerals using our smart board. We also learned to weave, like Roman children. Its a bit tricky. The children wore bullas around their neck. The bullas had charms or amulets in them to keep the children safe from evil. We made great chariots from Lego. We worked in groups using the jigsaw technique to learn and teach each other about different types of Roman houses. The Romans had beautiful mosaic floors and panels in their houses. We are trying to make our own versions. What a busy week we had. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Angus and the class went to Calendar House on 6th June to learn more about the Romans. Marie and Rachel taught us how the Roman Wall was built and went to see where the road would have passed through the park. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We tried on some of the equipment and learned that the chain mail was very heavy. The auxiliary soldiers would have worn chain mail but the legionaries had proper armour. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We were interested in all the artifacts found around the park. ![]() ![]() ![]() Marie taught us how to march and use our shields to protect ourselves. The adults threw balls at us but they weren’t able to hit us because we were very well protected. We got our revenge by chasing the adults across the grass! We had a great visit. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In the afternoon Catherine Williams came to the school to tell us about some of the games the Roman children would have played and we had a chance to try them for ourselves. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Please see the "Open Day" page for details about the Open Day we had, so parents could visit and see our Romans Project. |
